High Country Blood Donor Program



1. Canine Donor Requirements:

Must have a good temperament
Must be between 1 and 6 years of age
Must be 50 lbs. or greater (without being overweight!)
Must be current on vaccinations (please provide proof)
Must not be on any medications other than heartworm, flea and tick preventative.
Must be on heartworm, flea and tick preventative during the 6-month flea and tick season.
Must be physically healthy with no heart murmur
Must have never received a blood transfusion
Must have never been pregnant

2. Feline Donor Requirements

Must have a good temperament
Must be between 2 and 6 years of age
Must weigh 10 lbs or greater (without being overweight!)
Must be current on vaccinations (please provide proof)
Must not be on any medications other than heartworm, flea and tick preventative.
Must be indoor only, all housemate cats must be indoor also
Must be negative for feline leukemia and FIV
Must not have heart murmur
Must have never received a blood transfusion
Must have never been pregnant
Must not be exposed to other cats besides housemates (no fostering or pet sitting of other cats)

If you have a pet or pets who may qualify as blood donors, please contact our office for more information and an application packet. Donors are expected to donate blood approximately twice each year (includes short hospital stay and brief sedation). Heartworm preventative medication will be provided free of charge to all participating donors and a 10% discount on any necessary emergency medical procedures performed at AECHC will be available. All potential donors are blood-typed and checked for overall good health at no cost to the owner.
