Doctors:

David W. Linzey, DVM – Dr. Linzey is a 1994 graduate of the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Since that time, he has practiced small animal and emergency medicine in Taylorsville and Hickory, NC. Dr. Linzey and his wife, Debi, established the emergency clinic in 2005 and reside in Boone, NC.


Sarah R. Cooper, DVM – Dr. Cooper is a 2005 graduate of the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She received her undergraduate degree at Appalachian State University in Boone and completed an internship program in small animal / emergency medicine at VCA South Shore Animal Hospital in South Weymouth, MA. She joined the emergency clinic staff in 2006 and resides with her family in Boone, NC.


Kelly L. Ballard, DVM – Dr. Ballard is a 2000 graduate of the Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She has worked at several veterinary hospitals in North Carolina and Tennessee and currently practices as a relief veterinarian. Dr. Ballard joined the staff in 2006 and resides with her family in Jonesborough, TN.


Erin E. Stokes, DVM - Dr. Stokes is a 2009 graduate of the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. She then completed a small animal medicine and surgery internship at Carolina Vet Specialists in Charlotte, NC before joining the staff as a full-time emergency clinician in 2010. Dr. Stokes resides in Boone.


Robert F. Messenger, DVM - Dr. Messenger is a graduate of the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. He began the first veterinary emergency clinic in the Charlotte area and was instrumental in forming the emergency service for Carolina Vet Specialists. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care Society and joined the practice as a full-time emergency clinician in 2010.


Laura E. Chadwick, DVM - Dr. Chadwick is a 2001 graduate of the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She completed a small animal medicine and surgery internship at South Shore Animal Hospital in South Weymouth, MA following graduation. Dr. Chadwick has specialized in emergency medicine at several hospitals and currently provides relief services in the Asheville, NC area. She joined the staff in 2010 as a part-time emergency clinician and resides in the Asheville area.


Susan M. Mervin, DVM - Dr. Mervin is a 1996 graduate of the Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She completed a small animal medicine and surgery internship at Auburn University following graduation. Dr. Mervin has served in a variety of capacities at numerous hospitals and joined the practice in 2010 as a part-time clinician with an emphasis on dentistry.

 

Technicians:

Mandi Johnson, RVT – Mandi is from Watauga County and completed her veterinary technician certification in 2004 at Central Carolina Community College in Sanford, NC. She joined the staff in 2006 as a full-time technician / practice manager and resides in the Bethel community.


Cassandra Schuster, RVT - Casie is originally from central Pennsylvania and completed her veterinary technician certification in 2006 at Harcum College in Bryn Mawr, PA. She joined the staff in 2010 as a full-time technician and resides in Granite Falls, NC.


Kelly Allen, RVT - Kelly is an Ashe County native who is from Todd, North Carolina. She received her veterinary technician certification from Lincoln Memorial University in 2006 and a B.S in animal science from NCSU in 2008. She joined the staff in 2010 as a full-time technician and currently resides in Ashe County.
